Effective pain management with long-lasting effects for patients with chronic pain is still a challenge.
Investigation of the effects of a health-promoting intervention with “eye movement desensitization and reprocessing” (EMDR) in patients with chronic pain and a possible improvement of their quality of life.
Using a paper–pencil survey, 30 patients with chronic pain were interviewed at two timepoints using subscales of the German Pain Questionnaire (DSF), the Pain Disability Index (PDI), and the WHO Quality of Life—Short Version (WHOQOL-BREF). Between the two timepoints, the patients in the intervention group were treated with EMDR.
Some significant results indicate that quality of life is improved by using EMDR to treat chronic pain. In the intervention group, quality of life improved significantly in the domains of physical, psychological, and global quality of life compared to both timepoints.
Due to the explorative character of this study, however, findings can only be cautiously interpreted, and long-term studies with larger samples and follow-up surveys should be conducted to clarify statements about the efficacy and long-term effects of EMDR treatment for chronic pain. This treatment method appears to be of great potential, and use of EMDR an integral part of a multimodal, interdisciplinary pain therapy seems promising.

Digitalisation affects all areas of our private and professional lives, posing new requirements to cope with new technologies and the possibilities they offer. New competences are needed for mastering these challenges. Consequently, digital transition affects learning substantially. One of the competences that gain increasing importance through digital transition is media literacy. This paper tries to answer the question of how we can devise learning settings that foster media literacy in higher education. It does so by analyzing media literacy itself on the one hand, and learning settings in higher education which address media literacy on the other hand. Key findings are that media literacy is not precisely
characterized yet and that learning settings often do not address media literacy as a main competence goal. To that end, recommendations for developing suitable competence-oriented learning settings in media literacy education at universities are given.

The close monitoring of blood pressure during a caesarean section performed under central neuraxial anaesthesia should be the standard of safe anaesthesia. As classical oscillometric and invasive blood pressure measuring have intrinsic disadvantages, we investigated a novel, non-invasive technique for continuous blood pressure measuring. Methods: In this monocentric, retrospective data analysis, the reliability of continuous non-invasive blood pressure measuring using ClearSight® (Edwards Lifesciences Corporation) is validated in 31 women undergoing central neuraxial anaesthesia for caesarean section. In addition, patients and professionals evaluated ClearSight® through questioning. Results: 139 measurements from 11 patients were included in the final analysis. Employing Bland-Altman analyses, we identified a bias of -10.8 mmHg for systolic, of -0.45 mmHg for diastolic and of +0.68 mmHg for mean arterial blood pressure measurements. Pooling all paired measurements resulted in a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.7 for systolic, of 0.67 for diastolic and of 0.75 for mean arterial blood pressure. Compensating the interindividual differences in linear regressions of the paired measurements provided improved correlation coefficients of 0.73 for systolic, of 0.9 for diastolic and of 0.89 for mean arterial blood pressure measurements. Discussion: Diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure are within an acceptable range of deviation from the reference method, according to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) in the patient collective under study. Both patients and professionals prefer ClearSight® to oscillometric blood pressure measurement in regard of comfort and handling.
