String outages in photovoltaic plants

In this work, the factors leading to string outages are examined, and an enhanced method for detecting faults at the substring
level is presented. Utilizing GPT4-o to analyze O&M reports of 5089 photovoltaic plants, we classified outages
according to the affected components and the underlying origin, identifying the most frequent string fault causes. An
approach employing CUSUM Charts is introduced to identify substring outages within PV systems effectively. The methodology
utilizes fundamental field data that is commonly available in practice. A filtering approach, combined with the use
of CUSUM control charts, minimizes false positives, ensuring that only consistent underperformance is flagged as an outage.
The methodology returns far fewer false positives and more stable error intervals for substring outages than a former
monitoring approach. Overall, the study demonstrates a significant improvement in detecting substring outages. The
advanced methodology enables more effective O&M for PV plants, where substring outages are reliably identified after a
short detection time.

Implementing Education for Sustainable Development Collaboratively - A Case Study

Universities should be role models in promoting sustainability by educating students and giving all universitymembers opportunities for information and networking, at best including the university’s external partners.This paper illustrates the setting-up of a one-week long event at the University of Applied Sciences Coburg aspart of the German-wide ‘Public Climate School’ campaign with various (extra)curricular events. The eventsimplemented were based on principles of Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Entrepre-neurship Education. The aim was to involve as many internal stakeholders as possible (teaching staff, students,non-academic staff) as well as partners from the university’s local environment. From the experiences and thefeedback of those involved, we found that internal communication, engagement of students as well as infor-mal events to exchange ideas and get to know local players are critical to success. We derive practical implica-tions for universities when planning and implementing the programs.
